What you wear during your session can completely change the final look of your portraits. Instead of matching outfits, it’s more important to choose similar tones, mix in textures, and style everyone to coordinate in clothing that is complementary to the location and won’t date your images. Here’s some inspiration and the direction I encourage everyone to go when choosing their wardrobe.

what I love: complementing colors, mixed patterns, mixed textures

Outfit formula
Start with mom. Mom’s outfit will become the anchor for the entire family’s color palette.
Now choose someone else’s outfit with a pattern (skip if mom is in a pattern)
Build around the pattern. Choose solids, neutrals, textures, small pops of existing colors.
Finish with dad. Once you have mom, a pattern and some color, Dad becomes easy! Choose a simple solid, subtle texture or different pattern that complements the colors already chosen.
Don’t forget to add accessories. Bows & hair accessories, belts, jewelry, boots, simple layers.
