Winston-Salem Motherhood Photographer

Hi everyone, I’m Holly! You have stumbled upon my little corner of the internet, my creative space and where I will share my journey, the wonderful people I have met and all the stories I have had the privilege of capturing. So get cozy and get to know me!

A little about me: I married my high-school sweetheart. I have a one year old daughter. I am one of four kids, I LOVE big families. I am a coffee addict, anytime of the day. I am a sucker for anything sweet. Fall is my favorite season, but I am big on Christmas time! I usually start slowly decorating for Christmas a week or two before Thanksgiving!

So when did I first get into photography? I have always been that girl who takes WAY too many photos. I am embarrassed to say I have over 11,000 photos on my phone!!! (One day I will organize and save all these precious memories I have quickly captured of my day to day life.) A couple of years ago, I asked my husband for a nice camera to start taking photos in my free time! I would take some here and there and would always bring it out for big family events- Christmas, birthday parties, exciting moments! But I never had the confidence to take a big leap into photography. However, my burning passion for photography truly blossomed when I had my daughter, Eleanor. I always loved and cherished photos but once I became a mother and I first hand witnessed how quickly life truly moves when you have a child, I realized these moments are ones that I want to capture for others. Children are a true gift from the Lord and motherhood is beautiful, all the ins and outs- the long nights, the pure exhaustion, the sweet baby cuddles, the first little smile. All this to say I would be honored to capture such special moments in your life, whether it is a pregnancy announcement, maternity session, newborn photos, or updating those family photos on your wall.

So what did I do before photography? I have been a Pediatric Hematology & Oncology nurse for almost 5 years! I LOVE taking care of precious warriors who are such an inspiration to me. In my years as a Pediatric Hematology & Oncology nurse, I witnessed so many children truly fight for their life. I witnessed families be drawn closer together. I witnessed the faith of so many multiply. I had the privilege of developing close relationships with SO many people. I even met my photography mentor while caring for her child; I would not be where I am today in this exciting new chapter without her. I admire and love her dearly! My experience helps me connect with individuals on a deeper level. I truly love getting to know my clients. I love telling their stories. OH! and a bonus is I know how to work with children! I have many tricks in my back pocket and I will make a fool of myself trying to get them to smile! P.S I still work part time as a Pediatric Nurse 🙂

How would I describe my photography style? true toned, light and airy, lifestyle. I love to capture the true colors and true beauty of our surroundings. My editing style is light and airy, while still allowing the true colors to show. I love lifestyle photography, the in between real life moments.

Where are you located? I am based out of Winston-Salem, North Carolina and proudly serve families all across the Piedmont Triad & nearby surrounding areas as well!

How do I choose locations for my shoots? Well, luckily Winston-Salem has so many beautiful, easily accessible spots! I love to shoot outdoors for maternity & family sessions and mainly do in-home newborn sessions. However, don’t worry there are plenty of good natural light studio spaces to rent in the area! I like to discuss with my clients their vision for the shoot and will give recommendations of locations and generally let them pick. Unless its mini sessions- then the location is determined by me. 🙂 I am always on the hunt for new locations!

What camera and lens do I shoot with? I recently upgraded to a Canon 5D Mark IV and I LOVE it! My favorite lenses are my 50mm (love for outdoors!) and my 35mm (must have for newborn!) I started with a Nikon D3500! I am self- taught with the help of a few close friends and youtube 🙂 I am constantly learning new techniques and poses to help grow my business.

What do I love most about being a photographer? I love helping families cherish and remember these timeless moments in their lives. I know how important photos are to me and I know they are important to you for the same reasons- children grow so fast, life is short. I love giving families a tangible piece of art that can be treasured for many, many years to come.

Where do I see myself in 5 years with my photography business? I am a shoot for the stars kind of gal, I always dream big! I pray my photography business will blossom within the next 5 years. I want to shoot more in the moment memories and capture the raw moments and details you don’t want to forget. I can’t wait to meet so many new people and help tell their stories! I can’t wait to look back at this post, my very first blog post, and see how far I have come!
